Google Buys Company "Database" Metaweb
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Corporate Internet services giant Google has bought a company Metaweb database search engines to improve their performance. However, not disclosed how much the value of this acquisition.
"We have bought the company to improve the performance of the search engines become better and make the web become more useful for many people," said Jack Menzel, Director of Product Management of Google, in an official company blog post last week.
Metaweb is a database company based in San Francisco, USA, which was founded in 2005. The company is creating a public database called freebase contains more than 12 million items, including films, books, television shows, and the company.
Google emphasized that this acquisition will not change policy towards Metaweb freebase as a database service is free and open to the entire world. "We believe by increasing the freebase will enhance the extraordinary resources for improving the web in order to be richer for everyone," says Menzel.
In recent years, Google is aggressively acquiring other companies to strengthen its services, both on small firms and large size. Prior to Metaweb, the company which Google bought online is ITA Software, the provider of flight information services and applications.
